The suffering that is going on in our world is hard to comprehend. How can we ever understand what it means to loss the entire family members to war, to be sold into prostitution, to experience meaningless violence, to live through trauma, to go to bed hungry? But there are small children in Iraq who have to go on with life after tragid deaths of their parents. There are mothers grieving the loss of their children and the country that grieve the loss of 600,000 of their citizen. There are over 3,500 US soldiers who never returned. 500,000 victims of genocide in Darfur. 35 million orphans in Africa. 65 millions orphans in Asia. 400 million children who go to bed hungry every night. 40 million adults and children living with HIV/AIDS. 12 million victims of human trafficking. 33.6 million Americans (of which 12 millions are children) living with hunger.
What can we do? I hope, in a small way, we each can reach out to those in need and at the same time to gain wisdom from those marginalized. Here are the objectives of this site:
1. List organizations involved in dealing with the issues of poverty and oppression.
2. List activities we can do to address issues of poverty and oppression.
3. Raise awareness in areas relating to poverty, oppression, and human rights.
4. Report activities or stories of individuals who are engaged in addressing these issues (including stories of compassion and random acts of kindness).
I would like to extend invitation to anyone who have knowledge related to the above objectives to submit information on this site so we can make it available for anyone who wish to learn and to be involved in a concrete manner.
